About Randal Estes
Hi, I’m the owner and craftsman behind Vault Woodworks. Welcome, I’m glad you are here!
As a second-generation craftsman, I grew up immersed in the world of woodworking, learning the skills and values of fine craftsmanship from my father, John Estes. Very early he told me that I could pick any career I wanted just so long as it wasn’t in construction. However, he taught me how to build and become a craftsman like him.
While I went on to earn a degree in computer science and spent 38 years in the corporate world, woodworking has always been close at hand. I never stopped creating and building pieces for family and friends, and always going back to the lessons I learned from my dad.
Dad would take on side jobs and some of my fondest memories are from those evenings and weekends working with him. When I was little, he’d give me a can of nails and a hammer and teach me the right way to drive them, making me pull out and redo every bent one until I got it right. Or when I’d be puzzling over a problem in the shop, he’d let me wrestle with it for a while before showing me a better way. He always seemed to be thinking two or three steps ahead, and I learned not just how to build, but how to think like a craftsman.
All those years of building with dad is the foundation that has shaped my approach to everything I make today.
At Vault Woodworks, every project is more than wood and tools, it’s a story. Each piece is built with care, patience, and purpose, thoughtfully designed and meticulously crafted to become part of your family’s story for generations. To me, furniture is more than just functional, it’s lasting, meaningful, and made to be cherished.
